My name is Vanessa Nolte and I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, Tim for 11 years. We have two beautiful children! Marissa (9yrs old) was adopted as an infant. We took her home from the hospital when she was only a few days old. At age 4 she was diagnosed with high functioning autism (Aspergers). We also have a neurotypical son, Jacob (7yrs. old) who is a super sensitive and social guy. We have discovered quickly that autism is a life long learning journey no matter how “high” functioning she is. We have gone through many highs and lows over the past 5 years. Battles even. Leaving us exhausted and sometimes with “I want to give up” feelings. Autism is tough yes, but it has also been a gift. A gift because my eyes have been opened to a whole new world. A world of details, sounds and schedules. A world I never really paid attention to until Marissa was diagnosed. I’ve been reminded this season in my life, that it is in the “tough” times that God is able to do great things, because it is in those times that we give up control to Him. I am forcing myself DAILY to give up control to our creator, because he can do way more than I ever could.

Writing has always been a way for me to get my feelings out. It is almost therapeutic to me, so if my writing helps other families along the way, great! I hope that what you read will encourage you. I can’t wait to share more of our story.
